Long school Hours

Assalamualikum,

Dear parents,

A parent wrote to me abt long school hours and would like some help on how to overcome her problem. Maybe we all could share with her how we manage our child's daily routine from waking up in the morning to bedtime. Below is what she has written to me..

Salam to all parents,I'm having dilema now as my daughther had totally change of behaviour frm a cheerful girl to a moody ones. She wake up at 5.30 in the morning & reach home at 5 in the afternoon. She don't even hv time to learn her spelling nor school homework. By then after shower & dinner, she feels lethargic & sleepy.

Pls help....

  1. Dear sister, My son also wakes up at 5.30am and returns from school at 5. Normally my son will come back, shower, pray asar eat something then he will start doing his homework or learning his spelling. Then he will have dinner by 7pm. After maghrib he will revise his Qiraati. He will play while waiting for isyak. Immediately after isyak he will go to sleep. That will be by 8.45pm. Maybe you could try getting her to sleep early at night.
Give her some vitamins.. I have some friends whose child will normally sleep for 1hr after returning from school then when the child gets up he/she will start doing his homework. You can try it this way too.

  2. Salam sister,
Me too encounter the same issue, in fact its even hard for me as I'm a full time working mother. Everyday rush back home by 7pm to make sure he's done his homework or revise spelling.

It is so routine that automatically by 9pm his eyes shut. But alhamdullilah it doesn't affect him that much. Maybe with proper meals and supplement and enough rest helps.

Work with your daughter closely on how to manage her time that she comfortable with and it doesn't stress her out.

  3. Assalamu'alaikum!

What was mentioned by Ummu Ayman is true.
Its the same for my daughter....Immediately after she reached home, she will shower, have her meals and proceed to do her schoolwork...homework, revise her studies, do the maths everday assesment or practice her Qiraati. All these will be till about maghrib. Then she will watch TV or play with her siblings and goes to bed by 9.30am. We always insist that she sleeps early so she will have enough energy for the next day!
We gave her supplements, like DHA and vitamins to help her energise and for brain booster, InsyaAllah!
We as parents, will always be concerned about the changes in our child, but with our closed guidance and our faith in Allah, I think it will be a little tough in the begining but the ride will get smoother later.
But for me and my wife, its all during the weekdays,...weekends are for family. We always goes out and be with our kids, let them de-stress!... I dont really pressure them about studies during weekends..except for readings maybe.
Most importantly is to monitor our children closely and not to push them too hard if we think they might breakdown, slower the pace untill we feel that they can go a bit faster!..but ofcourse, do not lag in them!
